WHITEWATER, WI — The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team played the 13th-ranked Macalester Scots to a 0-0 tie Sunday at Robert W. Fiskum Field. UWW finished with nine shots on goal on 13 attempts, while the Scots had three shots on goal among 15 shots.
UWW came out quickly, with
Owen Winegar (Arlington Heights, Ill./Fremd) putting two shots back-tob-back, but both were saved by the Scots Keeper.
Aidan Glancey (Milwaukee, Wis./Whitnall) forced another save at 2:44 soonafter. The Warhawk had racked up three corners by 3:27 with a agressive start to the game.
After the match moved through a foul-heavy stretch, the Scots put together two shots in 10 seconds, but UWW free kick from
Mason Diercks (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) was in a dangerous spot from scoring, but a Macalester defender was able to stop the ball from crossing.
UWW generated six corner kicks and forced five saves on its attempts in the first half, but the Scots kept the match scoreless with four saves by Justin Ratner and a team save.
UWW added corner kicks in the 23rd and 34th minutes while the Scots sent later shots out left, high and out right, and the half ended 0-0.
A stalemate in the beginning of the second half resulted in both teams trading blows.
Tyler Chrisman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township) and Glancey put shots on frame in the opening minute of the half, and UWW added a corner kick in the 52nd minute.
Austin Waite (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) kept the Scots off the board with saves in the 58th and 71st minutes, while
Cade Mansfield (Greenville, Wis./Hortonville) forced another save at 69:22 during a stretch with chances at both ends.
UWW closed the second half with a late push, taking five shots in the final seven minutes while the match remained scoreless. In the closing minutes, Winegar,
Aidian Martin (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls), Glancey,
Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) and Chrisman all attempted shots, but the Scots tested Waite in the closing seconds before the match finished in a 0-0 draw.
Waite recorded three saves over 90 minutes and finished with a shutout. Glancey led UWW with three shots, putting all three on goal. Winegar added three shots, including two on frame.
The Warhawks will return back to Fiskum Field on Tuesday, September 15th, to face Dubuque College in the Warhawk/Spartans cup. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 PM.
