WHITEWATER, WI — The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team defeated Dubuque 2-1 on Tuesday in a comeback victory.

Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) scored in the 84th minute off
Aidian Martin's (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) assist to give the Warhawks the win in the inaugural Warhawk/Spartan Cup.
UW-Whitewater opened with seven attacking actions in the first nine minutes, including
Mitchell Tackney's (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Hempstead) early shot,
James Kiraly's (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmot Union) saved attempt, and multiple Martin looks around a run of corners.
Austin Waite (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) helped keep the match scoreless through the Spartans' early chances, making saves in the sixth, 19th and 27th minutes, but Dubuque found the back of the net in the 34th minute to go up 1-0.
UW-Whitewater kept pushing with corners at 41:58 and 44:29 and shots from Tackney and
Luke Konrad (Buxtehude, Germany/Buxtehude Sued), but the Spartans carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.
UW-Whitewater pushed for the equalizer with repeated chances, including six shots and two corners from 53:49 to 63:18, with
Tino Angelini (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada/Bishop Ryan Catholic) and Baettig both forcing saves. The pressure continued around the 69th minute, when Saul,
Michael Voulgaris (Van Dyne, Wis./Oshkosh West), and Angelini all had a flurry of shots from a close free kick.

Just 10-minutes later, another Spartan foul set up a Warhawk set piece.

Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) in the set play, as Saul put it in the net on the right side to put the Warhawks ahead 2-1.
UW-Whitewater absorbed the final Spartans chances as Waite saved a shot in the 90th minute to preserve the 2-1 final score. Waite played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with four saves while allowing one goal.
The Warhawks take the rest of the week off & will face Carthage College on Fiskum Field this Saturday, September 19th. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 PM
