Warhawks Defeat Blugolds in Makeup Contest

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team finished out the final game against UW-Eau Claire after rain postponed the game for over two weeks. The Warhawks kept their win streak alive with a 6-3 victory, finishing 4-0 against the conference series.

Before the game was postponed due to rain back on April 13th, the Warhawks held the lead 2-0 after a two-run first inning. Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) led off the game with a first-pitch homer, with Jackson Spring (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) adding an RBI single to put UWW up 2-0.

The Warhawks resumed the game with Landen Seymour (Rockton, Ill./Honongah) at first base. Seymour was the last batter before the rain, reaching base with a single before the game was called due to the weather.

Dominick McVay got the Warhawks going right away on April 29th hitting a "lead-off" double to begin the day. Seymour came around to score from McVay's double, putting the Warhawks up 3-0.

The Warhawks tacked on two more runs in the third inning, with Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) hitting an RBI single with bases loaded. Landen Seymour (Rockton, Ill./Honongah) grounded out, but did a job to score another with UWW taking a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the frame, the Blugolds were able to get on the board with an RBI single, then a two-run homer. Jackson Spring (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) was able to cancel out one of the runs with his own RBI single in the fourth, keeping the Warhawks up 6-3.

Franklin Kirchner (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Conant) finished his outing, allowing only three more hits & keeping the Warhawks ahead. Benjy Tucker (Alpharetta, Ga./Mount Pisgah) finished out the last 3.0 innings of the game, protecting the three-run lead for the Warhawks to earn the save.

UW-Whitewater baseball will return to Prucha Field this Friday to take on UW-Stout in their final WIAC series of the season. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 PM on May 1st.
