The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team defeated Grinnell College 15-3 with strong team hitting. The Warhawks recorded 11 hits from nine different batters in the run-rule win over the Pioneers.
The Warhawks got the bats going early as the designated away team against the Pioneers.
Evan Olson (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) brought
Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) around with an RBI double to score the first run of the game.
Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) helped Olson come around to put the Warhawks up 2-0 early.Â
Jackson Koenig (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) got to work on the mound, taking down the side in order in the first. In the second, Koenig gave up a two-out walk, but kept Grinnell out of scoring position.
The Warhawks tacked on another run in the third with an RBI from Holland. Koenig got through the third clean, notching two more K's with a nine-pitch inning.Â
At the top of the 4th, UWW started the inning with three straight hits to score another.
Jackson Spring (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) recorded the first RBI with a double to score
Dominik McVay (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point).
Brady Gilroy (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) hit a sacrifice fly to add another, and
Leyten Bowers (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point) doubled to bring in the third run of the inning, forcing a pitching change.Â
Grinnell got out of the inning and was able to find some of the offense of their own in the bottom of the frame. A lead-off HBP was able to come around after a sacrifice bunt & force out moved the runner home. Koenig minimized the damage with a looking strikeout, his fifth K of the day.Â
The Pioneers recorded their first hit of the day in the fifth.
Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) was able to clear the runner off the base path, catching him stealing second. Koenig finished the inning, allowing just two hits & no runs.Â
Jackson Spring (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) led off the top of the sixth with a single and was able to complete the rounds with the help of two wild pitches to put the Warhawks up 7-1. Grinnell was able to answer back in the bottom of the frame, cutting the Warhawk lead to just four with a 2-RBI triple.Â
The Warhawks answered back with their biggest inning of the day, scoring 8-runs in the top of the 7th. The inning started with two outs, three four-pitch walks loaded up the bases for UWW.
Brady Gilroy (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) drew the fourth consecutive walk to score McVay to get the scoring started.
Two more Warhawks scored after an error by Grinnell kept them from getting out of the inning.
Nelson Phillips IV (Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield East) hit in a run in on a single, and then advanced to second on another error as Gilroy also came around to score on the error.Â
A HBP and four-pitch walk reloaded the bases for UWW, still with two outs. With five runs already across in the inning, the Pioneers made their third pitching change of the inning.
Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) singled to bring across two more runners & put the score up by double digits. Holland scored on a wild pitch to put the Warhawks up 15-3 heading into the 7th-inning stretch.
Skyler Sievert (Laguna Niguel, Cal./Dana Hills) retired the side in order in the bottom of the frame to end the game after seven.

Jackson Koenig (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) picked up the win on the mound, going 5.0 innings with 6 strikeouts & one run allowed. Koenig didn't allow a hit until the 5th inning.Â
The Warhawks continue the Studer's Blue Wahoos Challenge tomorrow against Sewanee in the third game of their spring trip. First pitch is scheduled for 10 am.
