UWW Baseball Begins 2026 Campaign with a Top-10 Win

Warhawks Open Four-Game Series Against Trinity with a 6-2 victory

The #1/1 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team began its 2026 campaign with a top-10 win over #9/6 Trinity University in San Antonio. The Warhawks defeated the Tigers 6-2 in the first game of the four-game series.

The Warhawks didn't waste any time getting on the base path with Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) drawing a lead-off walk & Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) recording the first Warhawk hit of the season from the two hole.

Leyton Bowers (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point) brought in the runners with a two RBI double to give the Warhawks a 2-0 start in the top of the first.

Trinity University added a run of their own in the bottom of the first frame, but the Warhawks would go on to score 4 unanswered runs to take a 6-1 lead after just five innings.

Thies scored after Trinity tried to catch Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) stealing second; the throwing error brought Thies home for the lone score in the third inning. UWW tacked on two more in the fourth. Nelson Phillips (Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield East) opened the inning with a lead-off double, with Wyatt Jensen (Luck, Wis./Luck) bringing Phillips in with a single. Thies would go on to bring in Jensen to finish the inning.

Phillips brought in the last runner for the Warhawks in the fifth with an RBI on a fielder's choice.

The Tigers added one more run of their own after starting the bottom of the eighth with bases loaded. The Warhawks were able to get a double play for the first two outs, but the runner still scored to bring the score to 6-2.

Brady Malkow (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) got the start on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while recording 7 strikeouts. Benjy Tucker (Alpharetta, Ga./Mount Pisgah) replaced Malkow and took the win on the mound, going 2.1 innings with a strikeout & only two base runners.

The Warhawks recorded nine hits on the day, with three doubles. The Warhawk pitching and defense limited Trinity to just four hits, with no extra-base hits.

The Warhawks will continue the four-game series against Trinity with a doubleheader tomorrow in San Antonio. First pitch of the first game is scheduled for 4 PM.
