The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team secured its second victory in as many days against Greenville with a 2-0 win on Friday night.
The first half unfolded with the Warhawks pressing the attack, as
Aidian Martin (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and
Mason Diercks (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) both tested Greenville's defense early with shots, though neither found the back of the net. Despite several attempts, including two close-range efforts both thwarted by the Panthers' keeper, the half remained scoreless.
Austin Waite (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) made the start in net, making one save in the first half to keep the stalemate after 45 minutes.Â
The second half began with a flurry of activity from UWW's offense, culminating in
Aidan Glancey's (Milwaukee, Wis./Whitnall) goal in the 68th minute.
Alex Nelson (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) had the throw-in assit, with
Zeke Healy (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) giving the extra pass for Glancey's goal. Just three minutes later,
Mason Diercks (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) doubled the lead with another goal that started with a throw-in from Nelson, this time,
Cooper Re (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) was credited with the assist for Diercks's goal. Despite a series of fouls and yellow cards, UWW maintained control, holding Greenville scoreless throughout the period to secure a 2-0 victory.
Waite maintained his record in the second half, not needing to make another save in the shutout.
The Warhawks continue on their road stretch, getting one day's rest before a match against Westminster. The match against the Blue Jays is set for 1 pm on Sunday the 7th. The Warhawks then return to Fiskum for their 2025 home opener on September 13th against Augsburg.Â
