Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women Play Wheaton to Scoreless Draw on Wednesday Night

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team played to a scoreless stalemate against Wheaton on Wednesday night down on the Thunder's home field.

Wheaton was the more aggressive team out of the gate, grabbing three early corner kick opportunities. The Warhawk defense held them off, not allowing any clean shots on goal.

Towards the end of the first half, the Warhawks found their own bit of momentum, putting two shots on goal, the only two shots in the first half from either team. Jasmine Wilson (Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) put one on in the 36th minute, followed by Lilli Rick (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) with her own shot in the 40th.

After the halftime break, the Warhawks kept on the attack with a quick shot on goal from Jenna Laidlaw (Aberdeen, Scotland/Aberdeen Grammar). However, Wheaton was able to collect their first shot on goal on the counter-attack, but Kara Smith (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield South) made the save to keep it scoreless.

With just over 10 minutes left, Genevieve Simkowski (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) put the final attempt on goal for the Warhawks, but the Thunder keeper kept UWW out of the back of the goal as well.

After the 90-minutes hit the clock, the game remained nil-nil, giving a scoreless draw to each team.

Next up, the Warhawks will head out to Loras College with the men's team for a double-header against the Duhawks. The women will face the 24th-ranked Loras squad on October 1st at 5 PM.
