The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team fell to the 19th-ranked Loras Duhawks in the first game of the Wednesday night soccer doubleheader. The Warhawks held with the Duhawks for the first half, but Loras quickly extended their lead in the second to take the match 3-0.
The Warhawks took the first two shots on goal of the game, with
Jenna Laidlaw (Aberdeen, Scotland/Aberdeen Grammar) and
Jasmine Wilson (Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) each pressuring the goalie on the other end of the field, but Loras were the ones to strike first on the scoreboard, collecting their first goal on their first shot in the 30th minute. A high lob led to a weird bounce off the turf into the net.
Down by one at the half, the Warhawks came out hot with three shots in the first 10 minutes of the half, but none found the target, getting blocked by Loras defenders.Â
The Duhawks went out on the counter, though, scoring back-to-back goals to extend the lead to three. The Warhawks were unable to get any pressure towards the net, not recording a shot on goal in the second half.Â
The women's team will return to action next Saturday in the first game of the doubleheader with the men's program. The Warhawks will open their WIAC season with a home stand against UW-River Falls. Kick-off is set for 4 PM on October 4th.Â
