The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team celebrated its 2025 Senior Day with a big win over Cornell. The Warhawks' offense was firing on all cylinders, taking 17 shots on goal with five going into the net in a 5-1 victory.
After the initial kick-off at 2 PM, the game had to take a slight pause only 10 minutes in due to the weather in the area. After almost an hour delay, the game was safe to resume.
After the delay, the Warhawks came out moving quickly. With an offensive push resulting in a corner kick opportunity, senior
Avery Haisman (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) opened the scoring with a header from
Jasmine Wilson's (Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) corner.
UWW tacked on two more goals in less than 10 minutes to take an early 3-0 lead. The second goal of the game came off a long ball from
Abby LaMere (Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame) that found
Lilli Rick (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) perfectly in stride. Rick chipped it over the keeper for the goal. Soon after, Rick was able to add the assist on the next Warhawk Goal, finding
Jenna Laidlaw (Aberdeen, Scotland/Aberdeen Grammar) on the break away.
With a 3-0 lead after the break, the Warhawks were in full control of the game. But Cornell gained a small boost of momentum after a own goal put the Rams on the board.
The Rams goal didn't slow down the Warhawks, with UWW adding two more goals before the end of the game. Both goals came from near the top of the box, the first from
Amelia Burns (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) with the assist from
Genevieve Simkowski (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest). Brooklyn Carlson grabbed the second one to put the Warhawks up 5-1 on Senior Day.
After the game, the Warhawks honored the 2025 senior class.
Jude Dobrinska (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan College Prep),
Kaidence Horner (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community), Avery Haismen, and
Summer Curtis (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove).Â
The Warhawks will take one day's rest before returning to Fiskum Field to take on Benedictine College. The Warhawks will host their Fairhaven Senior Services Game during the 5 PM kickoff against the Eagles.Â
