Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warhawks Fall to North Park after Late Viking Goals

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team fell to North Park University on Friday night. The 7th-ranked Vikings mounted a late comeback to flip the game in the final minutes.

The first half was relatively even, with both teams putting one shot on goal. The Warhawks fended off multiple attacks from North Park, with great midfield control from Mason Diercks (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) and defensive tackles from Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty).

Mitchell Tackney (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Hempstead) was the one with the first half shot on goal to put pressure on the top-ranked Vikings. Austin Waite (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) made the save in the first half to keep the game at a 0-0 tie heading into the break.

The second half started off with a similar stalemate, neither team gathering many pushes. The Warhawks fought for a few offensive zone throw-ins, one of which resulted in a goal that was overturned. North Park was able to get a few looks, but the Adam Kaup (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and the Warhawk defense blocked numerous attempts from the Vikings.

Luka Breslin (Dublin, Ireland/Terenure College) put some pressure on net after a Warhawk throw-in, but a defender made the team save to keep the game scoreless. However, the Warhawks next throw-in was textbook, with Cooper Re (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) heading in Kaup's throw-in to put the Warhawks up 1-0 with less than 20 minutes to go.

The Vikings weren't out of the game yet, finding the equalizer in the 75th minute. North Park kept up the attack, eventually breaking through with a goal in the 87th minute to take the lead. The Warhawks were unable to find their own equalizer in the final minutes.

The Warhawks will return home to face Wartburg College on September 24th, the Warhawks will look to regain control of the Warhawk/Knight Cup after two consecutive draws the previous seasons. Kick-off is set for 7 PM.
