BELOIT, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Beloit College at Strong Soccer Field on Tuesday evening.
Andres Comp (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) secured the clean sheet, making three saves, including a penalty kick save to blank the Buccaneers.
The Warhawks took the lead with a late first-half goal by
Cooper Re (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) in the 27th minute.
Alex Nelson (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) collected his fourth assist of the season on another throw-in, with
Luka Breslin (Dublin, Ireland/Terenure College) redirecting the ball to Re. Re scored his 21st career goal in style with a bicycle kick to put the Warhawks up 1-0 heading into the break.
The second half saw the Warhawks tested immediately, with Beloit College awarded a penalty kick in the 47th minute.
Andres Comp (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) read it correctly, making the save to keep the Buccaneers off the scoreboard.
The Warhawks kept applying pressure, with multiple shots from
Owen Winegar (Arlington Heights, Ill./Fremd),
Aidian Martin (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls), and
Tyler Chrisman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township). UW-Whitewater was able to find the bracer in the 73rd minute off a corner kick.
Matt White (Bangor, Northern Ireland/Bangor Grammar) lined up on the flag & was able to get the angle to put it in from the corner to give UWW a 2-0 lead.
The Warhawks return to Fiskum Field for their next contest, taking on 7th-ranked North Park University. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 PM under the Friday night lights.
