The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season against 7th-ranked Augsburg University. The Warhawks found the back of the net in the second half, the first goal scored against the Auggies this season, but Augsburg's two first half goals were the difference.
It was a tale of two halves for the Auggies and Warhawks. The first half was all Augsburg, as they pressured the Warhawks with 6 shots on goal. Two of those shots made it past the Warhawk defense, as Augsburg took an early 2-0 lead at Fiskum Field.
But the second half went in favor of the Warhawks, with the pressure coming early from multiple close shots. After three consecutive corners,
Aidian Martin (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) reset the ball out to
Adam Kaup (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln). Kaup played the ball in, with
Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) making an athletic play to keep it in play. Kaup's play stunned the defense for a second, allowing
Luka Breslin (Dublin, Ireland/Terenure College) to score the Warhawks' goal. That goal was the first the #7 Auggies have allowed this season.
The Warhawks kept Augsburg from finding a bracer, not allowing a single shot on goal in the second half. The Warhawks kept the offensive pressure on too, but both shots on goal were saved by the Auggie Keeper in the second half.
The Warhawks will look to bounce back against Beloit College on Tuesday, September 16th. The game kicks off at 4 PM in Beloit. UWW men's soccer will then return home on Friday, September 19th against North Park for a Friday night lights contest.
