Volleyball Opens Invite with Pair of Wins

Eau Claire, Wis. -- The No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team opened the 12th Annual Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament with a pair of 3-0 sweeps. The Warhawks took down Marian 25-13, 26-24, 25-15 before topping Lakeland 25-15, 25-12, 25-11. 

The UWW offense was cruising from the start. The Warhawks hit .316 in the contest while the defense held the Marian to an attack percentage of just .060. 

Kylee Altendorf (West Bend, Wis./West) had a fantastic match hitting .323 with 14 kills - the lone player with double figure kills. She added three aces in the contest. Fellow outside Gaby DiMotto (New Berlin, Wis./West) hammered down 8 kills in 12 attempts with a single attack error. 

Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) set up the Warhawks on 36 kills adding 6 kills. Defensively, Natalie Lawton (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) paced UWW with 17 digs and Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) tallied a match high three blocks. 

In the nightcap, the offense was even more efficient hitting .378 with just 8 errors in 90 attack attempts. The second set bolstered UWW's offense as the Warhawks pounded down 14 kills in 22 attacks without a single attack error. The Warhawk defense held Lakeland to an attack percentage of .044 including a negative hitting percentage in the final set. 

DiMotto led all players with 11 kills. Amanda Hillmann (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) joined her in double digits with 10, hitting .429 in the match. Krzus dished out 33 assists, tallied 4 aces, posted 4 kills and added 3 blocks.

Lawton and Kyanne Wusterbarth (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) hit double figures in the dig column with 13 and 12 respectively. 

The Warhawks will wrap up play in the tournament hosted by UW-Eau Claire against St. Catherine University Saturday afternoon.
