Warhawks Open Season with Top 25 Sweep

Newport News, Va. - The No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team opened the 2025 campaign with a sweep of No. 21 Christopher Newport University 25-22, 25-23, 25-12. The Warhawks will wrap up the Captain Classic with a pair of matches Saturday against US Coast Guard Academy and Catholic University. 

UW-Whitewater doubled the offensive output of the home squad in the opening set hammering down 16 kills while the Captains registered just eight. Junior middle Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) led the way with 6 kills on 13 attempts while freshman Gaby DiMotto (New Berlin, Wis./West) pounded down 5 in 11 attempts. 

Seven Warhawks tallied kills in set two with Dix once again pacing the squad with four. 

The offense surged in the final set of the evening. UW-Whitewater hit .524 with 12 kills in 21 attempts while committing just a single attack error. Sophomore Amanda Hillmann (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) was a perfect 4 for 4 from the middle to lead the way. 

For the match, Dix hit .346 with a match high 12 kills. DiMotto and Hillmann each added seven kills on the night. From the service line, freshman Kyanne Wusterbarth (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) tallied six aces. Defensively, freshman Natalie Lawton (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) registered a match high 17 digs. Junior setter Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) posted 33 assists, added three aces and paced UWW with three blocks.
