Box Score The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team opened up the NCAA Division III Team Tournament with a 4-0 win over Luther College. The Warhawks went 2-1 to take the doubles point, followed by three straight-set-wins in the singles matches to take the win. 

The Warhawks opened with an early doubles point after securing the match with a tiebreaker match at the third flight. Theo Billson (Lindfield, England/BHASVIC) & Reuben Giorgio (Perth, Western Australia/Applecross) took their match at the top flight, but Luther College took No. 2 doubles to even the match. 

Drew Van Fossen (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) & Will Ulrich (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) battled it out at No. 3 doubles, the pairwon the first two games, but that was the only two game lead of the set, with the teams trading set. Luther College led 5-6, but Van Fossen & Ulrich evened it to force the tiebreaker. The pair trailed 4-2 in the tiebreaker, but won the final five points of the extra game to claim the doubles point for the Warhawks.

The Warhawks only needed three single flights to close out the match, taking the opening round 4-0. Billson quickly took his flight at No. 1 singles, with straight sets without dropping more than two games. 

Giovanni Vitali (Galgagnano, Italy/San Francesco) grabbed the fifth singles flight with a 6-3, 6-2 match. Van Fossen secured the match point at No. 3 singles. Van Fossen took his opening set with a tiebreaker win, then cruised to the victory with a 6-1 second set. 

The Warhawks will face a familiar opponent in Gustavus Adolphus in the second round of the tournament with a spot to the Regional Final on the line.
