Warhawks Wrap up Regular Season with a Win over Ripon

Thies and Scolan both hit two-run homers in the contest

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team concluded their 2025 regular season with a 10-8 win over Ripon College on Prucha Field. 

The Warhawks took an early 3-0 lead to start off the game in the bottom of the first. Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) blasted a two-run homer to set the tone early. Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) sent in Eli Frank (Bayport, Wis./Bay Port) for the early crooked-number. 

Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second to give the Warhawks a 4-0 lead after two complete. 

The Red Hawks gathered their first hit in the top of the third and brought the runner around with an RBI single. Ripon shut out the Warhawks offense in the bottom of the third, and carried the momentum forward into the top of the fourth. A two-RBI triple, followed by a sacrifice fly tied the game up at 4-a-piece.

Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) broke the tie with a sacrifice fly, and Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) stole home to give the Warhawks a two-run cushion.

Ripon College rallied once again in the sixth, to tie the game back up at six runs. The Warhawks were unable to break the tie in the bottom of the 6th, but afte rhte seventh inning stretch, Hopper hit a RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Dominik McVay (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point) to give the Warhawks the lead. 

Scolan added some more insurance, hitting a two-run jack to dead center to give the Warhawks a 10-6 lead heading into the last three outs. The Red Hawks were able to get some runners around, but Logan Eisenbarth (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) tallied three Ks, two looking, in the ninth inning. 

Max Huseboe (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) earned the win, pitching 2.0 innings in the contest. Huseboe fanned four batters, while only two hits & no runs. 

The Warhawks wrap up their regular season with a 35-4 record, winning their second consecutive WIAC Regular Season Title. UWW Baseball finishes their 17th straight season with 30 or more wins, as they prepare for the WIAC Tournament.

UW-Whitewater will have a rematch with UW-Platteville in the first round, set for 12 PM on Thursday, May 8th.
