The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track team set new records in their strong showing at the UW-Platteville Invite held by the Pioneers on Friday, April 11th and Saturday, April 12th.
The meet kicked off on Friday night with the 5000m & the hammer toss.Â
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) and
Katie Erb (Winnebago, Ill./) highlighted the 5000m, both setting new personal bests. De La Cerda broke a 26-year-old school record by nearly 20-seconds, timing in at 17:05.25. Erb also broke into the top-five in the Warhawk record book with a 17:49.25.
Ella Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis./UW-Parkside) &
Abbey Wedwick (Westby, Wis./) both hit the sub-19 mark in the Friday night race.
In the hammer toss,
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) reached the finals after a 50.74m toss on her first attempt. Czarnecki placed fifth overall in the event.Â
The invite continued into Saturday with multiple first-place finishes and more Warhawk records falling.Â
The Women's 4x100 relay of
Danielle Pouska (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs),
Dakota Mitchell (Sun Prairie, Wis./West),
Kelly Huerta (McHenry, Ill./), and
Cici Stennett (Barrington, Ill./), broke their own school record set a week ago at the Rex Foster Invite. The squad placed first overall with a 46.03 finish, nearly half a second faster than their time last week.Â
Angela Dale (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) qualified for the finals in the 100m dash, finishing fourth overall with a 12.47.
Renee Forystek (Waukesha, Wis./North) also had a top-10 finish in the 1500m, taking 6th overall with a time of 5:03.98.
Hannah Bilodeau (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) placed fourth in the 400m, timing in at 58.21.
Bilodeau joined four other Warhawks that finished in the top 15 of the 200m dash.
Dakota Mitchell (Sun Prairie, Wis./West) led the contingency with a third-place finish with a time of 24.88, the 6th best in program history.
Kelly Huerta (McHenry, Ill./) timed in at 25.14 for 6th place, with
Cici Stennett (Barrington, Ill./) (25.59) &
Danielle Pouska (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) (25.67) rounding out the Warhawk top finishers in the event.
In the Saturday field events, K. Czarnecki earned another top-5 finish in the shot put with a 13.09m toss on her first throw to reach the finals. K. Czarnecki also placed 6th (41.55m) in the discus, but
Ryleigh Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) was the top Warhawk in the event with a 44.21m toss to finish fourth overall.
In the jumps,
Lexie Weier (Mineral Point, WI/) reached the finals in the women's triple jump. Weier leaped 10.74m in the prelims, but improved her distance with a 10.84m jump on her final attempt to finish 8th overall.
In the high jump, the Warhawks had four in the top-10. Brynn Fuertsenberg,
Abby Burr (Lancaster, Wis./),
Danielle Pouska (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs), and
Zoe Roder (Waukesha, Wis./South) all surpassed the 1.55m bar to reach the top-10 spots.
The Warhawks are back on the track next weekend in Rock Island, Illinois for the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana.
