The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team fell to UW-Platteville after two late goals by the Pioneers in the conference contest.
The first half was back & forth, with neither team finding much ground. The Warhawks had a few shots, but none on goal. The Pioneers didn't have a shot on goal in the first 45 as well, with the Warhawks defending off three corner kicks in the first half.
The second half commenced with the Warhawks looking to overturn the deficit. Early in the half,
Genevieve Simkowski (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) took the first shot on goal from both teams, coming off a corner kick opportunity. Simkowski's shot was deflected by the defender, giving the Pioneers a team save
The Pioneers capitalized on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to take a 1-0 lead late in the game. A second goal followed in the 83rd minute from Margaret Slove, sealing the outcome. The Warhawks continued to press with shots from Simkowski and
Rowan Severson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) late in the half but were unable to break through, concluding the match with a 2-0 loss.
The Warhawks return to action this Saturday for their third straight conference match. UWW will take on the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point for their Alumni Appreciation game. Kick-off is set for 2 PM on October 11th.
