Whitewater, Wis. -- The No. 4 UW-Whitewater volleyball team swept the University of Chicago 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-20) Saturday evening in Russell Arena.
Despite being outhit in the first set, the Warhawks' determined defense led the way to a win.
Kylee Altendorf (West Bend, Wis./West) and
Natalie Lawton (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) kept multiple plays alive heading near the stands that led to UWW points. In the end it was
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) with back-to-back points - a kill and an ace - to seal the win.
The teams traded points in set two until the Warhawks put together a 5-1 run to force set point, 24-21. The Maroons captured the next two points before a UC service error handed UW-Whitewater a 2-0 lead in the match.
UWW trailed by as many as five early in set three before coming back to secure the sweep. The Warhawks ended the set on an 8-2 run as
Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) turned away a Maroon attack on the final point.
Krzus led the Warhawks with 10 kills hitting .643. She added 27 assists and three blocks in the contest. DiMotto tallied four aces to pace UWW at the service line.
Defensively, Dix had four blocks and Lawton led all players with 20 digs.
