Whitewater, Wis. -- The UW-Whitewater volleyball team fell to UW-Stout 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 15-25, 25-16, 15-13) in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match in Russell Arena Friday night.
The Warhawks outhit the Blue Devils .185 to .178 including registering five more kills across five sets. Still, UW-Stout was able to come away with the victory.
After splitting the first four sets, the Blue Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the decisive fifth. UWW battled back to knot the set 4-4 bolstered by a pair of kills from
Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) and another from
Emily Lego (Rock Falls, Ill./Rock Falls). The squads traded points and at the side-switch, the Blue Devils held a narrow advantage, 8-7.
A UWS 5-2 run from a 9-9 tie handed the Blue Devils match point, 14-11. An attack error and a Dix kills pulled UWW to within one, but Stout tallied the next score for the final.
Dix and
Faith Corbett (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) tallied 12 kills each while
Gaby DiMotto (New Berlin, Wis./West) added 11. Dix and
Amanda Hillmann (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) combined for 11 blocks in the middle.
Three Warhawks posted double digit digs led by
Natalie Lawton's (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) 18.
Emma Bludgen (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) registered 13 and
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) tallied 12 to go along with 45 assists.
