Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warhawks Hand 13th-Ranked Lake Forest First Loss of Season

Coach Tony Guinn ties Warhawk Coaching Record

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team defeated 13th-ranked Lake Forest College 2-1 on the cold, rainy Tuesday night. The Warhawks hand the visiting Foresters their first loss of the season, ending a 15 game win streak while extending UWW's win streak to six. Also with the win, Head Coach Tony Guinn ties the Warhawk coaching wins record, with his 164th win.

The Warhawks had their work cut out for them early, with Lake Forest taking four early corner kicks. The UWW defense held off all four, and eventually got their own momentum forward, taking four shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the game.

Despite the Warhawks constant pressure on net, it was the Foresters that put the first score on the board, taking an early first half lead after a 20-yard shot went perfectly to the top-left corner.

The Warhawks were unable to equalize, entering the half down 1-0, but lead the SOG battle 7-2.

It didn't take long after the break for the Warhawks to find some footing, tying the game in the 58th minute. Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) started the break by putting a through ball forward to Cooper Re (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) in the slot. Re quickly crossed it over to Mason Diercks (Oregon, Wis./Oregon), who had the wide open net to head the ball into to tie the game.

Only a few minutes later, the same trio of Warhawks would connect together for the game winner. Diercks headed the ball over to Saul after an Alex Nelson (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) throw-in the Warhawks' attacking third. Cooper Re (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) took one-touch before kicking a sideways bicycle into the net, avoiding both the defender and the goalkeeper.

Re's 6th goal in just three games was the final touch as the Warhawks shut out the Foresters the rest of the way to take their 11th win of the season. Austin Waite (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) played the full game in net, making three saves.

The Warhawks don't get a day of rest, as they return to Fiskum Field to take on Millikin tomorrow, October 22nd. Kick-off is at 4 PM with the women's team taking on UW-Oshkosh to follow.
