UWW picks up first WIAC win of the Season against Blugolds

Warhawks defeat UWEC for first time since 2022 after four straight draws from 2023-2024

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team took its first conference game of the season with a 2-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire. The Warhawks defeated the Blugolds for the first time since 2022 with two second-half goals.

With the past four matches between the Warhawks & Blugolds ending in stalemates, the Warhawks finally broke through in the 2025 regular season match.

The first half was relatively even, with the Warhawks putting four shots on goal and UWEC with three. Both of the keepers stayed clean through the first 45 minutes, with the Warhawks' Kara Smith (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield South) making the four saves in the first half.

After the break, the Warhawks immediately went on the attack, scoring two quick goals to take a commanding 2-0 lead early in the second half.

The first goal came off a UW-Whitewater corner kick in the 51st minute. Rowan Severson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) crossed it over, with Brooklynn Carlson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) knocking it into the near post with a bouncy shot. Carlson then helped add the brace, assisting on a goal from Summer Curtis (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) in the 57th minute. Curtis put on pass the keeper from the top of the goalie box, putting the Warhawks up 2-0.

The Blugolds were able to put a goal on the board after a breakaway in the 85th minute. But with just 5 minutes remaining on the clock, the Warhawks were able to control the possession not to allow an equalizer to force a fifth straight draw between the two teams.

The Warhawk women return to action on Wednesday, October 22nd with their next WIAC match-up against UW-Oshkosh. The Warhawk play in the second half of a soccer doubleheader with the men's program on Fiskum Field.
