Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

UWW Men Cruise to 3-0 Win over Firebirds

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team continued its momentum in the middle of a road stretch against Carthage College. The Warhawks scored three unanswered in the second half to take the 3-0 shut-out win.

After their offensive outing against UW-Stout the day before, the Warhawks came out firing again towards the Carthage goal. The Warhawks bolted out 16 shots with 6 on target in the first 45 minutes against the Firebirds. In comparison, Carthage only managed two shots, with neither being a clean look on goal.

Despite the lopsided first-half stats, UWW was unable to get anything past the keeper, with a 0-0 stalemate at the end of the first half.

After the break, the pressure finally paid off, with Tyler Chrisman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township) scoring on an olympico in the 57th minute. Chrisman's shot curved off the corner and bounced in off the far post.

Down a goal, Carthage started to get its attack going, putting two shots on goal in the early part of the second half. Austin Waite (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) made both saves, the only two he needed to get the clean sheet.

The Warhawks were able to extend their lead with a penalty kick from Luka Breslin (Dublin, Ireland/Terenure College), giving UWW a 2-0 lead. Then just 45 seconds after Breslin's PK, Franklin Kunfira (West Bend, Wis./West Bend West) added the second brace. Kunfira stole the ball from the Carthage keeper to score his own goal to give the Warhawks three goals in a game for the first time since September 13th.

The Warhawks finish out their road stretch next Saturday, heading to Dubuque on October 18th. UWW men will then return to Fiskum Field on October 19th for their next WIAC contest against UW-River Falls.
