Warhawks Control Match En Route to 2-1 Win against the Blue Devils

Breslin Notches Game-Winner in 64th minute

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team grabbed another WIAC win over UW-Stout on Saturday night.

The Warhawk struck right away, going up 1-0 in the 7th minute. Matt White (Bangor, Northern Ireland/Bangor Grammar) had a well-placed throw-in to set up Cooper Re (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) for the easy header into the net to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead early.

UW-Whitewater maintained the advantage before the break, keeping up the pressure on offense. The Warhawks kept on attacking, putting up large numbers in almost every stat category. In the first half alone, UWW had 16 corner kicks & 27 shots (9 on goal). In comparison, UW-Stout had one corner, with only 3 shots (none on goal)

After the halftime, it was Stout who was able to find some offense, scoring on their only corner kick of the second half. The olympico tied the game at 1-1 in the 54th minute.

The Warhawks didn't take long to reclaim the advantage, scoring in the 64th minute. Another corner kick, this time from Tyler Chrisman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township), gave Luka Breslin (Dublin, Ireland/Terenure College) a header from about 10 yards out. Breslin placed it perfectly, going opposite post on the game-winner.

The Warhawks maintained the one-goal lead, closing out the contest without allowing another shot on goal or corner from the Blue Devils.

The Warhawks dominated the game, tallying 23 total corner kicks and 43 shots (15 on goal).

After the battle in Menomonie in the northwest portion of the state, the Warhawks will head all the way to the southeast corner, taking on Carthage College in Kenosha tomorrow evening. The game is set to begin at 7 PM.
