The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's volleyball team fell to No. 4 Hope College 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20) in Lexington, Kentucky Saturday morning.
The top five matchup was initially scheduled for Friday afternoon at Transylvania University. However, a power outage on campus due to effects of Hurricane Helene forced Transy to move all matches of the invite to Saturday and switch locations to Dunbar High School.
The Flying Dutch jumped out to a quick 7-0 advantage in the first set. The margin grew to 12-2 when UWW began mounting a comeback. The Warhawks eventually cut the lead to two, 16-14, when a battle ensued. The squads traded points until Hope put together three in a row to force set point 24-19. Still, UWW did not fold - taking the next four points to cut the gap to one, 24-23. A kill gave HC the set.
The Dutch built an early lead and held it in set two to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Warhawks flipped the script in set three jumping out to a 4-1 advantage. Hope came back to tie the set, but UWW put together a small run to reclaim the lead. The Warhawks held the advantage the rest of the way en route to a 25-19 win to force a fourth set.
UW-Whitewater trailed by 21-16 in set four when they opened up a run and started to pull momentum away from the Flying Dutch. The 5-0 spurt was bolstered by three
Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) kills and an
Ally Longden (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) ace as UWW cut the gap to one, 21-20. Hope responded with four straight to take the match.
The Warhawk tandem on the outside - Weinfurt and
Alayna Jansky (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) - combined for 32 kills. Weinfurt added 19 digs, three aces and four blocks while Jansky posted 11 digs and a pair of blocks.

Jaedynn Evans (Kalona, Iowa/Iowa City Regina) registered 34 digs to lead the Warhawks defensively.
Hannah Proctor (Durand, Ill./Durand) paced UWW at the net with seven blocks.
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) tallied 39 assists adding 12 digs and 7 kills.
UW-Whitewater will wrap up their trip to Kentucky with a match against No. 25 Transy at Dunbar High School tonight a 7 PM ET.
