Warhawks Overcome Early Deficit, Defeat Fontbonne 4-1

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team bounced back quickly after an early Fontbonne goal to pick up their 5th win of the season.

First Half
The Griffins lit up the scoreboard first, capitalizing on a loose ball in the Warhawks' defensive end. With a 1-0 lead only five minutes into the game, Fontbonne looked confident with their early lead.

It didn't take long for the Warhawks to curb the momentum, adding the equalizer only a minute later. A misplayed Griffin header from a Dominic Mudlaff (Muskego, Wis./Waukesha Catholic Memorial) pass gave Miles Hagen (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) a chip shot over the keeper to tie up the game 6-minutes in.

The Warhawks took the lead with about 15 minutes left in the half on an abnormal throw-in goal. Adam Kaup (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) threw the ball in, which was tipped by the keeper over to Peyton Nichols (Green Bay, Wis./Bayport) who had the wide open net for the goal.

Second Half
The Warhawks added the bracer only three minutes into the second half. Tucker Jahns (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland) stole the pass from the Griffin's keeper before putting it in the back of the net to put UWW up 3-1.

UWW added another before the end of the game, with Cristian Abdala (Niles, IL/Maine South) pulling the keeper out wide before crossing it over to James Kiraly (Twin Lakes, WI/Wilmot Union) for the goal. Sam Bilyk (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park & River Forest) was credited with the second assist with his pass to Abdala.

The Warhawks closed out the last 15 minutes of the game not allowing a single shot by Fontbonne. Fontbonne picked up the pressure, but the Warhawks stayed steady, drawing four fouls in the waning minutes.
