The No. 10 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's volleyball team registered a pair of sweeps to open the 2024 campaign Friday. The Warhawks topped Lake Forest College 25-10, 25-14, 25-14 before defeating Edgewood College 25-17, 25-12, 25-21 in the nightcap in Russell Arena.
The Warhawks were firing on all cylinders in the pair of matches Friday. The offense was efficient hitting .400 while hammering down 82 kills. Defensively at the net, UWW tallied 19 blocks, an average of 3.2 per set. UW-Whitewater also put the pressure on from the service line registering 16 aces in 6 sets.Â
Ally Warburton (St. Charles, Ill./North) led the offensive effort against Lake Forest with eight kills.
Alayna Jansky (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) pounded down seven kills without committing a single error in ten attack attempts.
Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) added six kills and led UWW with four aces.
Defensively,
Amanda Hillmann (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and
Ava Rebarchik (Sussex, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) each registered three block assists while libero
Jaedynn Evans (Kalona, Iowa/Iowa City Regina) posted 11 digs.Â
Weinfurt was nearly unstoppable in the second match of the day. The powerful outside hitter went off for 17 kills in 29 attacks. She added a pair of aces and eight digs against Edgewood. Jansky added nine kills, three block assists and 11 digs from the outside. Rebarchik and
Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) frustrated the opposing hitters combining for a solo and eight assist blocks in the match.Â
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) dished out 64 assists on the day adding seven kills, three aces, a solo block and three block assists.
UW-Whitewater will wrap up play in their first home invitational of the season with a pair of matches Saturday against Augsburg (12pm) and Knox (2pm).Â
