The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team finished fourth at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by UW-Platteville Saturday.
Shelvin Garrett II (Beloit, Wis./Memorial) and
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) claimed golds on the final day of competition in the championship.
Garrett II secured gold in his signature event, the triple jump. His mark of 15.17 meters (49-9.25) won the event by four inches. Teammate
Jordan Hall (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) added fourth-place points to the team total with a leap of 14.50 meters (47-6.75) to jump into the top 20 nationally in the event.
Patzka was the first to cross the finish line in the 1,500 meter run. His time of 3:45.90 is a WIAC Championship meet record, a facility record and ranks seventh in Division III this season.
Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) came in sixth in the event with a time of 3:51.60.
Two Warhawks added points to the team total in the 100 hurdles.
Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) tied his season best time of 14.66 to finish fourth with
Tamir Thomas (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) claiming sixth with a clocking of 14.77.
Kobe Chandler (Beloit, WI/Memorial) posted a top 35 time in Division III in the 400. His 48.03 was good for sixth Saturday.
In the fastest event of the day,
Ben Bojar (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) finished fifth with a time of 10.52 - a top 20 time nationally. That mark is a career best by over two-tenths of a second and is third-fastest in Warhawk history.
Andy VanZile's (New Berlin, Wis./West) time in the 100 meter dash, 10.76, was eighth at the meet. Bojar added a time of 21.70 to finish sixth in the 200 - a top ten time in program history.
A pair of Warhawks finished among the top eight in the 5,000 meter run.
Dan Anderson (Eau Claire, Wis./McDonell) finished as the runner-up in the event with a time of 14:46.10.
Chris Allen (Downers Grove, Ill./North) came in fourth, posting a time of 14:55.18.
Bojar led off the Warhawks' 4x100 relay squad that finished fourth. VanZile and
Nick McFadden (Waukesha, Wis./Pewaukee) were the next to grab the baton as
Carsen Rindt (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) anchored the group to a time of 41.53. UWW's 4x400 relay combination of
Brad Heller (Brookfield, WI/East), Chandler, Jonathan Weah and
Darin Laux (Hartford, WI/) finished eighth with a time of 3:22.14.
