The UW-Whitewater men's and women's track and field program opened the 2026 outdoor campaign at a pair of meets this week.
Distance Carnival hosted by WashU
Jonah Block (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) highlighted the Warhawks at the Distance Carnival hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. Block registered a lifetime best 9:29.97 in the steeplechase. His clocking was the ninth fastest for a Division III athlete and was 21st overall.
Tucker Johnson (Poynette, Wis./Poynette) and
Alex Metko (Brillion, Wis./Brillon) represented UW-Whitewater in the 10,000. Johnson posted a time of 31:11.16 while Metko crossed the line in 31:34.48.
Pioneer Triangular hosted by UW-Platteville
The Pioneer Triangular hosted by UWP featured athletes from UW-Platteville, Dubuque and UW-Whitewater.
In the sprints, the Warhawk women swept the top three spots in the 100 led by
Kelly Huerta's (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) 12.03.
Alyssa Stacy (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) was clocked in 12.10 while Hannah Wahl-Bilodeau crossed the line in 12.17 for second and third respectively.
Sophie Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) added a fifth place finish in the event. The men followed suit, also securing first through third.
Kayden Baumgart (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) paced the crew with a time of 10.74.
Ben Bojar (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) claimed second (10.87) while
Traysen Thomason (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) (11.10) was third.
Chris Kalies (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) added another gold in the sprints as the first to cross the finish line in the 200 with a time of 21.72.
James Williams (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) (6th) and
Ryan Bintz (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) (7th) also represented UWW in the finals of the event. On the women's side,
Grace Wood (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) was eighth with a time of 29.64.
The hurdles saw
Jack Erickson (Belleville, Wis./Belleville) highlight the 400 squad with a top clocking of 57.33.
Kyle Popowski (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) came in second with a time of 59.51 while
Derek Leitzen (Woodstock, Ill./Marian) was fifth (1:00.61). Aubrey Schreiber's 1:15.97 was good for fourth in the women's race. In the 110 meter hurdles,
Tristan Ropiak (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) secured fourth, crossing the line in 16.03.
Four Warhawk women placed among the top eight in the high jump led by
Zoe Roder's (Waukesha, Wis./South) second place height of 1.58 meters.
Amanda Hillmann (Kettle Moraine, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) finished third (1.53 meters) while
Mercedi Lapacek (Poynette, Wis./Poynette) was fourth and Wood claimed a share of seventh.
Daniel Nickel (Marshall, Wis./Marshall) took second on the men's side with a mark of 1.96 meters.
Jer'Von Anderson (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) matched that height but finished third on jumps while
Landon Scray (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) was fifth in the event.
Lexie Weier (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point) highlighted the horizontal jumps with a gold mark of 10.77 meters in the triple jump.
In the throws,
Caitlin Zingsheim (Milton, Wis./Milton) paced the UWW women with a third place finish in the hammer throw. Her mark of 44.61 meters was closely followed by
Ryleigh Czarnecki's (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) 44.07 meters for fourth.
Lou Matulenko (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) was seventh in both the hammer and the shot put while Czarnecki added an eighth place finish in the shot put.
On the men's side, Scray claimed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 43.16 meters while
Jordan Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 14.21 meters.
