The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis match came down to final flight as the Warhawks & Gusties battled till the end in the regional semifinal of the NCAA Team Tournament.

The Warhawks took the doubles sets 2-1 after a win at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 2, Theo Billson (Lindfield, England/BHASVIK) & Drew Van Fossen (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) battled the flight into a tiebreaker. Van Fossen had an service ace to finish out the 7-2 tiebreaker, taking the team point.

The No. 3 doubles pair of Payton Adkisson (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) and Tyler Nelson (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) found themselves down 4-1 early, but battled back, winning seven games in a row to take the flight 8-4.

Theo Billson (Lindfield, England/BHASVIK) went on to take the first singles flight for UWW at No. 4, with a quick 6-2, 6-0 match. But with Gustavus winning singles flights #2 and #5, the match was tied up at 3-3. 

The #6 singles flight went in favor of Gustavus, but Tyler Nelson (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) took #3 singles for a 4-4 match. Nelson went down the first set 6-1, but battled back with a 6-1, 6-3 second/third set.

With the match tied up, it all came down to Luke VanDonslear (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) at #1 singles. After taking the first set 6-3, VanDonslear fell in the second 6-2. With all eyes on the match, VanDonslear battled with Marco Siviero from Gustavus Adolphus.

VanDonslear had the 4-3 edge after the switch. VanDonslear took both of the games on that side, taking the match and winning the final team point for UW-Whitewater.

The Warhawks will be back out tomorrow to take on Denison for the Regional Championship. The match is set to begin at 1 PM.
