Warhawks Score in Every Inning in Win over Ripon

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team kicked off their stretch of weekday away games with a win over Ripon College. The Warhawks scored at least run in every single inning of the game, taking an 18-7 win in 7 innings.

The Warhawks opened up the scoring right away, with Eli Frank (Bayport, Wis./Bay Port) hitting a homerun in his first at bat. By the time Ripon got out of the inning, the Warhawks already managed to build a 4-0 lead.

Ripon answered back with three hits in the first inning, but only managed to score one run, which the Warhawks made back up in the top of the second.

Another big hitting inning in the top of the third for the Warhawks caused an early sub on the mound for Ripon. The Warhawks built their lead up to 8-1 with the help of two RBI doubles from Bennett Frazer (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) and Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran). Ripon tried to work their way back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third. But the Warhawks put up another rally, scoring 8 more runs over the next 3 innings.

Up 16-3 heading into the 7th, the Warhawks added two more runs, but the Red Hawks looked to keep the game going, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th. The Warhawks ended the rally, closing out the game in 7 innings.

Bennett Frazer (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) finished the game with 5 RBIs, going 4-for-5 from the plate. Wyatt Hansen (New Braunfels, Texas/Smithson Valley) had two doubles with Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) stealing three bags.

The Warhawks will head back out on the road tomorrow, with a conference double-header against UW-Platteville. The Warhawks and Pioneers will remake the games postponed from last week, finishing out the season series.
