Warhawks with Two Wins over UW-La Crosse, finish series 3-1

McVay had two homers in the first game, Scolan with two in the second game

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team finished out their series against #10/10 UW-La Crosse. The #6/4 Warhawks took both games on Sunday, 10-7 and 10-2.

The Warhawks got things started right away in the first game, scoring in the opening inning. However, the Eagles answered back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the first. 

Down 5-1, the Warhawks started to slowly comeback. with two runs in the top of the third, followed by a Dominik McVay (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point) home run in the top of the fourth. The Warhawks were back within one run to the Eagles.

The Eagles added an insurance run in the fourth, but the top of the fifth was all the Warhawks. Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) drew a HBP with the bases loaded to put the Warhawks within striking distance 6-5.

Only one batter later, McVay hit his second home run of the game, cleaning up the bases with a grand slam. The next inning, the Warhawks added their own insurance run, going up 10-6.

The Eagles managed to add one more run, but Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) came in to pitch, picking up the save in the 10-7 win.

In the second game, the Warhawks took a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning, with Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) getting things going with a home run in the first inning. 

After a few scoreless innings, the Eagles added their first run with a solo home run. But the Warhawks answered back in the top of the 5th with another 4 run inning. The scoring run was started with another Scolan home run, same as the first inning. 

The Warhawks would go on to score another two runs in the next inning, picking up the 10-2 win over the 10th-ranked Eagles. Michael Hilker Jr. (Yorkville, Ill./York) picked up the win ont he mound, his fifth of the season. Hilker fanned 10 batters in his 7 innings, only allowing two hits and one run. 

The Warhawks will have a busy week up next, with a non-conference match against Ripon on Tuesday, April 23rd. ON Wednesday, April 24th, UWW finishes the conference series against UW-Platteville before another non-conference game against Edgewood on the 25th.
