The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team finished third in a 24-team field at the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College Friday and Saturday.
Shelvin Garrett II (Beloit, Wis./Memorial) won both the long jump and triple jump to pace the Warhawks at the meet. Garrett II recorded a mark of 15.22 meters (49-11.25) in the triple jump -- that mark is third-best in Division III this season. He added a top 35 national mark in the long jump with a leap of 7.05 meters (23-1.75).
Tyler Jensen (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) added a bronze in the discus with a throw of 47.80 meters (156-10) to move into the top 35 in the national rankings of the event. Meanwhile,
Brady Schaller (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) tallied a top 50 mark in DIII with a height of 4.58 meters (15-0.25) to finish fifth in the pole vault. Rounding out the field events,
Sean Larsen (Waukesha, Wis./South) added seventh-place points to the team total in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.54 meters (169-1).
Kobe Chandler (Beloit, WI/Memorial) had the top finish on the track for the UWW men. He finished as the runner-up in the 400 with a time of 49.32.
UW-Whitewater garnered the most team points in the 3,000 steeplechase with four Warhawks finishing among the top eight.
Brandon Gang (Waukesha, Wis./West) paced the group with a time of 9:26.95 - a mark that ranks among the top 50 nationally.
Chris Allen (Downers Grove, Ill./North) finished sixth with a time of 9:41.81 followed by
Connor Murphy (Sheboygan Falls, WI) in seventh with a clocking of 9:45.28.
Keegan Bratt (Waukesha, WI/West) capped the Warhawks in the top eight with a time of 9:46.01.
A three-Warhawk contingent in the 10,000 added points to the team total. Nickolas Hardin and
Tucker Johnson (Poynette, Wis./Poynette) finished back-to-back in third and fourth respectively. Hardin crossed the line in 30:54.63 followed by Johnson's 31:15.74.
Alex Metko (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) added a sixth-place time of 31:25.92.
Ben Bojar (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) paced the Warhawks in the 200. His time of 21.90 was good for third while
Carsen Rindt (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) finished seventh with a clocking of 22.08.
Adam Kunny (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) was eighth in the 100 with a time of 11.01.
In the relays, Bojar led off the Warhawk 4x100 combination that included
Andy VanZile (New Berlin, Wis./West),
Nick McFadden (Waukesha, Wis./Pewaukee) and Rindt. The foursome crossed the line third with a time of 42.97. UW-Whitewater's 4x400 crew of
Drew Davey (Elkhorn, WI/),
Rhett Reuter (Darlington, Wis./Darlington),
Josh Anhalt (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and
Colin Lewandowski (Elmhurst, Ill./York) recorded a time of 3:30.70 to claim sixth.
