The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team picked up two 7 inning wins against UW-Platteville on Wednesday afternoon. The Warhawks hit six home runs and totaled 28 runs in the double header.
In the first game, the Warhawks got to work right away, with
Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) hitting in the first run of the game in the top of the third. Later that inning,
Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) hit a grand slam to left field, putting the Warhawks up 5-0 after only three innings.Â
In the Top of the 6th,
Eli Frank (Bayport, Wis./Bay Port) hit his first of two home runs in the game. A solo shot to center field put the Warhawks up 8-0. In his next at-bat in the Top of the 7th, Â Frank hit a 3-run homer to left field.
Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) also got a hold of one in the top of the 7th, hitting a two run home run to right field.
Heading to the top of the 7th, the Warhawks were up 14-0. UW-Platteville was able to score two runs, but it was another 7 inning game for the Warhawks.
Paden, Thies, and Frank (2) all homered in the first game, with
Dominik McVay (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point) and
Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) each picking up a double. Frank also picked up the win on the mound with his two home runs, going 6 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts.
The Warhawks only needed one pitch to open up the scoring in the second game. On  his very first pitch,
Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) sent the ball out of the park to put the Warhawks up 1-0.
UW-Platteville would respond with their own run in the bottom of the inning, but the score didn't stay tied for very long.
Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) opened up a rally in the top of the third with another Warhawk home run. The Warhawks put together three doubles and three singles in the inning for eight runs.Â
In the next two innings, the Warhawks added four more runs to their lead, heading into the 6th with a 14-1 lead over the Pioneers.
After 6 more outs, the Warhawks picked up another win in 7 innings, their third in a row.
In the second game,
Cade Hansen (New Braunfels, Texas/Smithson Valley) picked up the win. Offensively, Holland and Scolan each had a home run, with
Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), Thies, and McVay all hitting doubles.
The Warhawks will continue conference play with a four-game series at UW-Eau Claire this upcoming weekend. The first game on Saturday, April 13th, is set for 3 PM.
