Warhawk Baseball Wraps up Series in Texas

#22 UWW Split the four-game series against #19 Trinity

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team finished their four-game stretch in San Antonio with a 9-1 loss to #19 Trinity (TX). The Warhawks split the four-game series, winning the first two games 14-3 and 21-2 before losing the second two 8-7 and 9-1.

The Saturday morning game started out very defensively. The first two innings were scoreless before Trinity hit a single home run in the bottom of the fourth to go up 1-0.

The Warhawks remained hitless, with 12 strikeouts in the first 14 batters, before Cooper Pease (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Whitewater) recorded a single in the top of the fifth to get the bats going. However,  the Warhawks couldn't find a run in that inning or the next.

The Tigers extended their lead with a five-run 6th-inning, with a two-run homer and 2 RBI double giving the Tigers a healthy lead before the 7th-inning stretch.

The Warhawks finally got on the scoreboard after the stretch, with Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) hitting a lone home run to make the score 7-1. But after holding the Tigers scoreless, it was another three straight strikeouts in the 8th.

Another two doubles for the Tigers gave them a 9-1 lead, and the Warhawks were unable to respond in the top of the 9th, finishing out the four-game series.

On the offensive side of the box score, UW-Whitewater was featured by Scolan, who had the lone run off of his home run.

Trinity's Jackson Teer pitched the entire nine innings, recording 20 strikeouts against 29 batters faced. The 20 strikeouts for Teer tie Trinity's single-game record from 1965 and is a new SCAC record.

The Warhawks look forward to their Spring Trip down to Pensacola, Florida. UWW Takes on McMurry University on March 10th to start off the eight game trip.
