The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team started off their Spring Trip to Pensacola, Florida with a win over McMurry University. The Studer's Blue Wahoos Challenge's first game was a battle between the Warhawks and War Hawks, with your UWW Warhawks taking the 16-5 victory.
McMurry opened up the game with a triple to center field, but the Warhawk defense battled out of the inning keeping McMurry scoreless.
In the top of the second, McMurry would open up the scoring, with a double sending a run in to make it 1-0. The Warhawks would respond back with two runs of their own, to retake the lead.
In the bottom of the third,
Eli Frank (Bayport, Wis./Bay Port) homered to center field, putting the Warhawks up 4-2. McMurry tied it up at 4-4 at the top of the 4th, but a huge fourth inning for UW-Whitewater gave the Warhawks the lead for good.Â
McMurry went on to score another run in the fifth, but it was too little too late, as the Warhawks offense was on a roll and added six more runs over innings 5 and 6.
Offensively, the Warhawks were led by Frank and Daniel Hopper. In his five at bats, Frank had 5 hits, including a double and a home run for a total of 6 RBIs. Hopped also went 5 for 5, with 2 RBIs and a double.
On the mound, Michael Wilker Jr. picked up the win, with 2.0 innings pitched and no runs allowed.
