The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team had a late rally fall short, with the McMurry War Hawks jumping out to a large lead.
McMurry started the game with three straight runs in the first inning, capitalizing on some errors from the Warhawk defense. Another two runs in the top of the second created a 5-0 lead for McMurry.Â
UW-Whitewater finally made it on the scoreboard in the fourth, as
Bennett Frazer (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) sent two runs in from a triple to center field, bringing the game to just 5-2. But a 6-run inning from McMurry extended their lead back nine, 11-2.
In the bottom of the eighth,
Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) looked to spark some hitting, hitting a two-run homer. McMurry answered back with two runs of their own and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th wasn't enough for the Warhawks to overcome the deficit.Â
The Warhawks will continue their Spring Games with a double header tomorrow. The day starts at 3 PM against the University of Chicago followed by a game against Carroll University.Â
