The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams competed all over the Midwest as part of the Last Chance meets before nationals.
The Warhawks were in two different locations on Saturday, with jumpers and throwers at Carthage and runners at UW-Platteville.Â
At Carthage, Kenzie Czarnecki and
Mikayla Madlena (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) both competed in the weight throw, with Czarnecki recording a 17.18m toss to finish third in the meet. Madlena was right behind her placing fourth with a through of 16.89.
The Warhawks had three women compete in the pole vault,
Ella Maher (Rockford, Ill./Winnebago) led the way, crossing the 3.38m mark, with
Zoe Jenks-Recker (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) getting the 3.23 bar followed by
Malerie Morey (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) clearing the 3.08m.Â
On the men's side of the pole vault,
Brady Schaller (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) cleared 4.41m bar, placing second overall in the event.
Adam Giljohann (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) also placed in the top five, with a 4th place finish of 4.11m.Â
To round out the Carthage meet,
Jordan Hall (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) leaped 14.10m on his first attempt in the triple jump to take 2nd overall in the event.
Over at UW-Platteville, the Warhawk runners highlighted the event.
Caleb Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) got things started, placing third in the 60m dash with a time of 7.05.
The Warhawks placed first in both the men's and women's 200m dash.
Ben Bojar (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) ran a 22.67 for the men, with
Jacqueline Kornowski (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) finishing her lap with a time of 26.50.Â
In the 400m, it was Whitewater again with the number one spot, with
Kobe Chandler (Beloit, WI/Memorial) leading the way with a time of 49.99. Chris Kailes also placed in the top 5, timing in at 51.68.
Also in Platteville, it was neck and neck in the 60m hurdles, with a two-tenths of a second difference between first and fourth. For the Warhawks,
Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) placed 3rd with a time of 8.30 and
Tamir Thomas (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) placed 4th with a time of 8.33.
On Saturday, the Warhawks traveled to Wartburg and UW-La Crosse. WIth distance runners in Wartburg and dashers at La Crosse.
In Wartburg,
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) placed in the top 5 of the women's mile, with a time of 5:01.11. She was joined by fellow Warhawk
Renee Forystek (Waukesha, WI/North), who finished with a time of 2:17.09.
In the 800m,
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and
Katie Erb (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) competed. Fassbender ran a 2:17.09 in the event, with Erb timing in at 2:19.48.
Both of the Warhawk men that were in Wartburg competed in the 3000m run.
Dan Anderson (Eau Claire, Wis./McDonell) placed 6th overall with a time of 8:28.22, followed by
Tucker Johnson (Poynette, Wis./Poynette) who placed 12th with a time of 8:40.48.
Over in La-Crosse, the Warhawk hurdlers of Cystrunk and Thomas both improved on their times from the day before. Cystrunk ran a 8.16 second 60m hurdle in the finals, Thomas timed in at 8.30 seconds in the same event.
National qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship will be announced on the evening of Sunday, March 3rd on ncaa.com.
