Warhawks Finish Out Spring Trip with 17-2 Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball finished out their spring trip with a  big win over Huntingdon College.

The Warhawks didn't take long to get the bats going, with Darryl Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) sending a double down the left field line to give the Warhawks the first run.

After a quick inning on defense, Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) led off the Warhawks in the top of the third. Scolan kickstarted another run with a solo home run. The Warhawks would go on to add three more runs that inning, extending their lead, 5-0.

Huntingdon finally got on the board in the bottom of the third, putting together two hits. In the next inning, Huntingdon got a runner in scoring position before Alex Najera (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) made a diving catch in center field to retire the inning.

The Warhawks added another two runs in the top of the fifth, capitalizing on an error and some successful base running, making the score 7-1. Another three-up-three-down sent the game into the final four innings.

Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) hit a sacrifice fly in the 6th to give the Warhawks another run. But the top of the ninth put the game away for good, as the Warhawks added 9 runs, giving them a 17-1 lead going into the bottom of the ninth.

Huntingdon got a couple runners on base, but only had one run score in the last inning, giving the Warhawks a 17-2 win.

The Warhawks will return to Wisconsin, as they prepare for travel to Dubuque for a game against Loras college before the WIAC season starts. The Warhawks kick off the WIAC season with a four-game series against UW-Stout starting March 29th.
