Men's and Women's Swim/Dive open up Conference Duals with win over UWO

Women Pull Ahead in Last Two Events (122.5-120.5), Men win Handily (140-70)

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's teams both came away with wins in their dual match against UW-Oshkosh. The men's team took the meet with a 140-70 win. The women's team eked out the close victory, with a 122.5-120.5 finale. 

The Women's race came down to the last two events of the night. The Warhawks needed a first and third place finish in the 200m free relay. The team of Grace Linstroth (Port Washington, Wis./), Emily Connell (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower), Jenna Denton (O'Fallon, Ill./), and Bella Borta (Wonder Lake, Ill./Woodstock) took the needed gold with a time of 1:39.76. Addi Sanow (Munster, Ind./), Izzy Doczy (Greendale, Wis./), Nikolina Gallo (Greendale, Wis./), and Andi Bullman took third to secure the win on the women's side. 

Men's Swim Highlights
In the first men's event of the evening in the 200m medley relay, the Warhawks took 1st and 2nd. The team of Ethan Schmohe (Sullivan, Ill./), Noah Johnson (DeKalb, Ill./), Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./), ad Donny Gramer (Dekalb, Ill./Sycamore) finished with a time of 1:37.95. Matt Ozog (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin), Own Phillips, and Daniel Keller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista) snuck into a second place finish by 0.05 seconds. The latter squad timed in at 1:41.43 as the third-place Oshkosh team times 1:41.48.

Caleb Weis (Burlington, Wis./) led the Warhawks in the 1000 free, timing in at 10:26.43. Weis finished over 30 seconds ahead of the second-place Titan swimmer.

Ethan Bergman (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) and Owen Philips were neck and neck in the 200 free. Bergman finished first with a time of 1:50.80, with Phillips finishing at 1:52.74. Bergman had a top-spot finish in the 100 butterfly as well, timing in at 54.29. 

The Warhawks also took the top two spots in the 50 free, with Jason Halvert (Whitewater, Wis.) and Donny Gramer (Dekalb, Ill./Sycamore) finishing at a 21.59 and 22.52 respectively. 

Daniel Keller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista) earned gold in the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.42. Keller also finished on the podium in the 100 breast, timing in at 1:04.39 for third. 

The Warhawks took the top four spots in the 100 free, with Halvert (47.87), Schlueter (48.83), Gramer (49.30), and Weis (50.46) topping the event.

Matt Sipin (Round Lake, Ill./Grayslake Central) led the Warhawks in the 500 free, placing first overall with a time of 5:12.15. 

In total (12 events), the Warhawk men collected 10 first place finishes

Women's Swim Highlights
The 1000 free on the women's side was a close race until the end. Hannah Wenszell (West Bend, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual) narrowly finished second, with a time of 11:32.19, sticking with the first place Oshkosh swimmer the entire way.

The Warhawks had the top-two finishers in the 50 free, with a pair of freshman finishing a tenth of a second a part. Grace Linstroth (Port Washington, Wis./) timed in at 25.57 for the top spot, with Jenna Denton (O'Fallon, Ill./) narrowly behind at 25.67.

Bella Borta (Wonder Lake, Ill./Woodstock) had a tight race in the 100 free. Borta placed second with a time of 53.90, a tenth of a second behind the first place finisher. Emily Connell (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) also placed on the podium in the event, timing in at 54.09. 

Izzy Doczy (Greendale, Wis./) and Gianna Gnewuch (Verona, Wis./) reached the podium in the 100 backstroke. Doczy (1:02.89) placed second with Gnewuch (1:03.37) took third. Gnewuch added a first place finish to her resume as well, topping the 100 breast race with a time of 1:12.97. Gnewuch was joined on the podium by Amelia Davey (Phillips, Wis./), who finished second with a time of 1:16.68

Freshman Nikolina Gallo (Greendale, Wis./) also had a first-place finish for UWW in the 500 free. Gallo timed in at 5:26.69 for the first place finish.

Women's Diving
In the 1 meter dive, The Warhawks were led by Jersey Schweitzer (Oak Creek, Wis./). Schweitzer placed second overall with a total score of 180.83. Lydia Wirkkula (West Bend, Wis./West Bend West) tied for 4th with a score of 151.95. Brookelyn Kelpfer and Maggie Reinert (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warreville South) placed 6th and 7th with a 139.35 and 129.15 respecitvely.

Going to the 3 meter dive, Schweitzer placed second with a 155.48. Kelpfer (4th-149.55)m Wirkkula (6th-133.28), and Reinert (7th-109.13), rounded out the Warhawk divers. 

Up Next
The Warhawks hit the pool right away, heading to UW-La Crosse for their second WIAC dual match in as many days. The Diving events will begin at 10 am.
