Aidian Martin (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) had a phenomenal night to bolster the Warhawks' 3-0 win over Millikin University on the road Wednesday.
Martin tallied a pair of assists and scored a goal of his own in the win as UWW registered three goals in the first half. As a team the Warhawk offense put the pressure on the Big Blue defense throughout the game with a flurry of shots. UW-Whitewater took 17 shots including 7 on goal and held a 6-4 advantage in corners. Still, all of the scoring came in the first 45 minutes of the contest.
In the ninth minute, UW-Whitewater won a corner that would lead to the opening goal. Martin stepped to the ball and connected with his right boot on an in-swinger near the middle of the box.
Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) had position just behind the keeper and was able to head the ball passed the outstretched arms of the goalie for the first score of the game.
Midway through the first, Martin struck again. Settling a pass in the middle of the pitch, Martin hit a laser from 30-yards out catching the keeper too far up off of his line. The ball sailed over the goalie's hands and under the crossbar for a banger of a goal in the 23rd minute.
The final goal of the half brought a feeling a deja vu for the fans watching. Martin took the corner and sent another in-swinger toward the back post. This time it was
Miles Hagen (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) getting his head on the ball to best the keeper just inside the post for a 3-0 Warhawk lead in the 41st minute.
UW-Whitewater returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this Saturday against the top team in the league, UW-Eau Claire (10-1-3), at 7 p.m. at Fiskum Field.
