The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team found themselves down late, but a last-minute goal sent Benedictine and the Warhawks into a 1-1 draw.
First Half
The first 45 minutes was slow offensively, as both teams looked to showcase their defense. BenU recorded the only shot on goal in the first half, putting a shot on in the 15th minute.
Neither team was able to put on any pressure in the offensive end of the field, and it reflected in the box score with no corners in the first half.Â
Second Half
In a scoreless game, both teams came out of the break with some changes to attempt to get around their opponents.
Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) recorded the Warhawks' first shot on goal in the 50th minute, but the Eagles goalie made the save.Â
Jenna Laidlaw (Aberdeen, Scotland/Aberdeen Grammar) had an opportunity to get the Warhawks on the board, but a great save by the Eagles goalie kick-started a counter-attack. BenU capitalized on the counter-attack, scoring the first goal of the game in the 69th minute.
Down by one, the Warhawks kept pressure, putting four more shots on goal in the final 20 minutes. With less than a minute remaining, UW-Whitewater found the one they needed, with
Jasmine Wilson's (Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) shot finding the left corner of the net. Wilson made her move about 15 yards out before putting the ball in the back of the net with 45-seconds remaining on the clock.
Neither team was able to get anything going with the limited time remaining, finishing the game in a 1-1 draw.
