Warhawks Fall in WIAC Opener

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team fell 3-1 to UW-River Falls in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.

For the first time since 2014, the Warhawks took the field in a WIAC match against the Falcons. Two-unanswered goals in the second half pushed UWRF ahead of the Warhawks in a 3-1 loss to open conference.

First Half
The game started off quick with a Falcons goal, with UWRF scoring in the first 7 minutes. But UW-Whitewater quickly found the equalizer, grabbing their own goal only ten minutes later.

Cooper Re (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) found the back of the net, capitalizing on an onslaught of Warhawk shots at the goal.

Both teams looked to create an advantage before heading into the break, each team put five shots on goal in the first half.

Second Half
The second half started off with four quick UWW shots, but the Falcons were the ones to find the back of the net first, scoring their first goal of the second half. Landon Christiansen found the back of the net in the 62nd-minute.

The Warhawks went back on the attack for the equalizer, but with seven minutes left in the one-score contest, Christiansen found the back of the net again to give the Falcons a two-goal lead.

The Warhawks put four shots towards the net, but were unable to find a goal to get them back on the scoreboard.
