Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warhawks Force Draw against Top-Ranked Blugolds

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team forced a draw against the top-ranked UW-Eau Claire. Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) had the game-tying goal in the 80th minute to even the game at 2-2.

First Half
The Warhawks looked ready for the challenge against #7 UW-Eau Claire to begin the game. The Blugolds would start to develop offensive pushes, but the Warhawk defense turned away every opportunity, keeping the Blugold offense at bay.

The Blugolds, coming off 20 goals in their last two games, didn't record a single shot on goal in the first half.

The Warhawk offense was spread out through the half, Aidian Martin (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) recorded the first shot on goal, 4-minutes in, but the next SOG wouldn't come until the 24th minute.

Late into the half, the Warhawks opened up the scoreboard, with Aidian Martin (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) adding one with an olympico from the right corner. Martin's corner kick went right over the fingers of the Blugold keeper, continuing its bend into the net. The Warhawks entered the break up 1-0.

Second Half
The Blugolds showed why they are a top-10 team in the nation in the beginning of the first half, quickly erasing the one-goal Warhawk lead. The Blugolds got their equalizer in the 55th minute, quickly followed by the go-ahead goal in the 71st.

With a 2-1 lead, the Blugolds continued their attack, with three shots on goal in the final 20 minutes.

In the 80th-minute, the Warhawks took advantage of a offensive-third free kick. Jacob Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) took the kick, placing it in stride to Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) for the game tying goal.

The Warhawks had a few opportunities late for the game-winner, including a near-miss from Tucker Jahns (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland). Jahns caught the keeper up his line, but his chip shot landed just-high in the 81st-minute.
