Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Defensive Showcase as Warhawks and Pioneers end in Draw

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team put on a defensive showcase against UW-Platteville in a 0-0 scoreless draw.

First Half
Both teams looked evenly matched well into the first half. It was evident goals weren't going to come easy with both teams locked in on defense.

Neither team got many clean shots on goal the first half. UW-Platteville recorded six shots with the Warhawks recording seven shots, but each team only had one shot on goal.

The Pioneers recorded the first shot of the net, but Hannah Wolf (Oshkosh, Wis./West) made the Warhawks' lone save in the first half.

For the Warhawks, Juliana Madonia (Schaumburg, Ill./James B. Conant) recorded the only shot in the first 45. Madonia put a chip shot from about 20 yards out, but the UW-Platteville keeper reached out to tip the ball over the crossbar.

Second Half
The Warhawks immediately went on the attack after their second half kick-off. 30 seconds into the half, Jasmine Wilson (Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) had her cross deflected towards the net. Brittany Ellinghaus (Plainfield, Ill./North) picked up the ball in the scrum, placing the ball to the empty side of the net.

A Pioneer defender cleared the ball on the goal line, keeping the game in a scoreless tie.

The Warhawks didn't let up after the first attempt, as the recorded eight total shots on goal in the second half.

Some of the Warhawk shots came from free kicks right outside of the box, with the Warhawks aggressive offensive drawing fouls from UW-Platteville. Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) was the name called for those set pieces, taking two of her three shots on goal off free kicks.

In the 74th minute, the Warhawks had another close goal call, with Jasmine Wilson (Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) hitting her spot from almost 30 yards out. The Platteville goalie punched the ball into the bottom of the cross bar, but UWW didn't get the lucky bounce across the goal line.

The two teams traded shots at the end of the game, but after 90 minutes neither made a mark on the scoreboard.
