UWW Sweeps SMU to wrap up Warhawk Triangular

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball wrapped up their home triangular with a 3-0 sweep over Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. The Warhawks defeated the Cardinals 25-16, 25-17, 25-15.

Saint Mary's came out quick, recording the game's first three points, but UW-Whitewater quickly bounced back, regaining the lead at 6-3. The two teams went back and forth, but an 8-0 Warhawk run became too much for the Cardinals as the Warhawks ran away with set one.

The second and third set were similar stories, with the Warhawks going on large runs to maintain the lead over the Cardinals.

UW-Whitewater was well-rounded throughout the match, with six players with more than three kills. Payton Keupers led the way with 10 kills, hitting .529 through the three sets. Emma Bludgen (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) and Kate Bahrke (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) each had 11 set assists to lead the Warhawks.

On the defensive side of the net, the Warhawks continued to show-off why they are the #1 blocking team in the nation. Through three sets, the Warhawks recorded 8 blocks. Ava Rebarchik (Sussex, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) led the team with 8 block assists.

The Warhawks get a week rest before their next match. UW-Whitewater will head up to River Falls for a triangular on Saturday, October 6th. The Warhawks take on UW-River Falls at 3 pm, followed by a non-conference match against Macalester.
