The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team took a late lead against UW-Stevens Point to close out a 2-1 win over their conference opponent.
Fionnbharr Hartnett (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) scored the game-winner in the 79th minute to put the Warhawks over the Pointers.
First Half
The two teams were evenly matched throughout the first half, the defenses held strong, with neither gaining a strong push offensively.Â
In the first 30 minutes of the half, neither team got a good look on net, with no shots on goal but one blocked shot on each side.Â
The Pointers broke open the game with a goal in the 32nd-minute to go up 1-0.
It didn't take the Warhawks long to answer back, with
Zack Kristy (Burr Ridge, Ill./Lyons Township) finding
Aidian Martin (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) on a through-pass. Martin had a one-on-one with the keeper, going top right for the equalizer.Â
Second Half
The Warhawks came out of the break not looking to play for the draw. UWW recorded three shots on goal, with the defense also staying strong, not allowing a single shot on goal.
The offensive pressure finally paid off, with
Miles Hagen (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) taking a shot in the 79th-minute. The Pointer keeper was unable to control the save, and
Fionnbharr Hartnett (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) collected the rebound for the game-winner.
