Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hawk Cup ends in 1-1 Draw

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Men's Soccer team held on to the Hawk Cup for another year, with a 1-1 draw to Loras College on Tuesday, October 1st.

The 13th annual Hawk Cup ended in a draw, with the Warhawks maintaining the trophy, defaulting back to their 3-1 win in 2022.

First Half
From the beginning of the game, the fans could tell it would be close. Both offenses had quick offensive surges.

Both offenses stalled towards the middle of the first half, with each side testing out to see where the weaknesses in the defense were. The Warhawks had a chance to go up after a mishandled save by the Duhawks Keeper but were unable to capitalize.

Luka Breslin (Dublin, Ireland/Terenure College) would answer the call for the first goal of the night, putting the finishing touch on a Warhawk set piece. Fionnbharr Hartnett (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) placed his corner kick for Zach Kristy to head it over to Breslin for the first goal of the night. The Warhawks went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Second Half
Both teams turned up the aggression in the second half (and each team had a few yellow cards to show for it) in the rivalry match of the Hawk Cup.

A foul in the box by the Warhawks set up Loras with a penalty kick in the 67th minute. The Duhawks' Galiana Torres went top left for the equalizer to tie it up 1-1.

Each team had their fair share of looks in the second half, searching for the game-winner. Jonathan Fenton (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) made a clutch double-save in the 85th minute, and a shot by Faizhan Mohiuddin missed just over the top crossbar in the 87th.

Loras had one opportunity on an offensive zone throw-in, but the Warhawks forced the goal kick as time expired, securing their 1-1 draw.
