Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warhawks Score Quick, Defeat Rockford 2-0

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Men's Soccer team headed south to Rockford to take on the Regents for a Labor Day match.

The Warhawks were on the attack from the opening kickoff, picking up a corner kick opportunity two minutes into the game. On the play, Tucker Jahns (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland) missed slightly right, but it would go to set up Payton Nichols for a low center shot that the Rockford goalie was able to save. The Warhawks already had two good looks on goal only three minutes into the game.

At the 8-minute mark, Jacob Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) found his way past the keeper, setting up UW-Whitewater with an early 1-0 lead. Adam Kaup (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and Fionnbharr Hartnett (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) were credited with assists on the goal.

The Warhawks piled on the shot attempts for the rest of the half. Outshooting Rockford 9-1 in the first half. Picking up his first collegiate goal, Owen Winegar (Arlington Heights, Ill./Fremd) added another goal to the lead, giving UW-Whitewater a two-goal advantage entering halftime. Nolan Ehlers (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) was credited with the assist.

Duncan Morgan (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) picked up his second clean sheet, making one save in the first half. At halftime, Matthew Vollmer (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) took on the keeper role. With Vollmer in net and the Warhawks playing sound defense, they maintained the two-goal lead and only allowed one shot from the Regents, which Vollmer saved.

UW-Whitewater outshot Rockford in the second half 5-4 with a 2-1 edge for shots on goal. The total shots on goal for the game were Warhawks 6, Regents 2.
