The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Women's soccer team opened up conference play with a suspenseful game against UW-Eau Claire. UW-Whitewater had good looks on net and kept Eau Claire out of the offensive end, but the game ended in a scoreless draw.
Both teams battled it out in the first half, but UW-Whitewater had the edge on the offensive end, pressuring the Blugold goalie with five shots on goal in the first half. The Warhawk defense kept Eau Claire out of scoring position, only allowing one shot on goal which
Jude Dobrinska (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan College Prep) made the save on.Â
The second half saw more offensive pressure from UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks put two more shots on goal and kept UW-Eau Claire away from the keeper, not allowing a Blugold a single shot on goal the second half.
Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) ripped a shot to the low left as time was expiring, but the Eau Claire goalie made the stop. Ending the opening WIAC game in a 0-0 draw.Â
The Warhawks had nine total shots on goal while the Blugolds only managed one in the first half. Dobrinska earned the shut-out with one save.
Maya Rebic (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) led the team in shots on goal with three.Â
UW-Whitewater will return to Fiskum Field for a double-header with the men's program on Wednesday, October 4th. The women continue conference play and match-up against UW-Oshkosh at 7 PM. The men kick off the night with Millikin at 4:30 PM.
